The individual who was arrested in Maavah island of Laamu atoll in connection with a drug bust, has been remanded.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the man was arrested during an operation conducted by the authorities to curb drug trafficking and smuggling across the country, as well as efforts to crackdown on such networks.
The operation was conducted after officers stationed on the island received an intel report of drug trafficking attempts.
Arrested in connection with the case was a 27-year-old Maldivian man.
Officers conducted the operation on March 7.
They stopped the suspect on the roads of the island and found 42 rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics, upon searching him.
Upon being presented to the Maavah Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the suspect has since been remanded for a 15-day period.
Further investigations in connection with the case, are currently underway.
