The president met members of M. Dhiggaru council and WDC on Wednesday

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to address the needs of Dhiggaru island of Meemu atoll.

This was done during a meeting he held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Wednesday.

Discussions at the meeting revolved around the development needs of the community including the need for banking services on the island, the need to initiate a shore protection project in the reclaimed area as well as the need for a road development initiative.

They also raised the issue of shortage of staff at the island’s health center and shed light on the urgency of providing housing units for island residents.

The president was also briefed on the need to provide essential utility services on the island such as a water and sewerage network as well as power generation to the newly populated area.

Councilors also sought from the administration to upgrade the island’s electricity network.

Speaking at the meeting, the island’s WDC members urged the government to provide Ramadan allowances for them.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.

Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers accompanying him on the tour shared latest updates linked to the issues raised, at the meeting.
