The government is to establish a Maldives Police Service (MPS) Post in Angolhitheemu island of Raa atoll.
This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a meeting he held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Sunday.
Speaking at the meeting, the president pledged to finalize the establishment of a police post on the island within the year.
The meeting also saw councilors stressing the need to expedite the implementation of a water and sanitation system on the island.
Discussions also revolved around other needs including the establishment of a T-Jetty and a designated swimming area.
Councilors also sought from the government to extend services provided at the island’s health center, to 18 hours.
They also shared the need to establish ATM services, a handball court as well as other social development needs required for the island’s progress.
The meeting also saw the island’s WDC members sharing concerns regarding budget constraints.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
