MP for Inguraidhoo constituency Hassan Ahmed ‘Hassantey’ has signed onto the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).
MP Hassan left the former ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to join PNC.
He handed over his application to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday.
MP Hassan is someone who had immensely criticized Dr. Muizzu during his time in MDP, in the former administration.
At a time there have been reports circulating that MPs are being presented with “generous” offers in exchange for signing onto the ruling party, 13 lawmakers have left MDP to sign onto PNC.
According to reports, government officials have been making offers to lawmakers, saying that they would be paid an amount between MVR one million and three million if they sign onto PNC.
These lawmakers are also being offered top positions in the government, according to reports.
