The government has announced an initiative to assist nurses and other health professionals out of work, to return.
This was announced by the President’s Office on Tuesday.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reached the decision to formulate a special policy to facilitate the return of nurses and other health workers who have not been working due to various reasons, following recommendation of his Cabinet of Ministers.
The decision was based upon extensive deliberations on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Health during a cabinet meeting held on Sunday.
With this initiative, the return of nurses and other health professionals to the service will be facilitated, based on available positions.
This will be done under a specific program allowing for a quick recruitment procedure as opposed to the general policy of offering employment to employees.
Muizzu also decided to allow those who desire to work less than eight hours a day, to do so within the established standards of the civil service by setting a salary based on their working hours.
Further, it was decided to extend assistance to individuals above 55 years of age and those retired who are not registered in the registry set up, to facilitate the recruitment of out-of-service healthcare workers who are qualified in terms of health, education, experience, skill, and availability of positions in the administrative structure.
