Municipal services in Hulhumalé to be transferred to Malé City Council
This was included among the presidential pledges made by Muizzu during his campaign

The municipal services in Hulhumalé are to be transferred to the Malé City Council.
This was announced by the President’s Office on Tuesday.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reached the decision to transfer municipal services in Hulhumalé to the Malé City Council following recommendation from his Cabinet of Ministers.
The decision was based upon extensive discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works during a cabinet meeting held on Sunday.
The President’s Office revealed that all legal requirements have been met and that transition efforts are currently underway, in phases.
The decision includes facilitating these changes to be realized in no more than a month from 31 December 2023.
Further, Muizzu has also instructed the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, the Ministry of Finance, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the Malé City Council (MCC) as well as the President's Office to work together to ensure that all administrative works are completed successfully.
Transferring all municipal services across the Greater Malé Region to the Malé City Council is included among the presidential pledges made by Muizzu during his campaign.
