A plot of land is to be allocated in the capital Malé City, for the new Waqf Building.
This was announced by the President’s Office on Tuesday.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reached the decision following a meeting he held with his Cabinet of Ministers on Sunday.
Sunday’s cabinet meeting saw extensive deliberations held on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Sunday’s deliberations revolved around enhancing revenue for religious activities through investments in new waqf facilities.
Muizzu directed the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to collaborate with the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development to identify and allocate an appropriate plot for the new Waqf Building in line with the cabinet’s recommendation.
The Islamic ministry is to collaborate with the Housing Ministry to allocate an appropriate plot for the new Waqf Building within a week.
