A total of MVR 3.4 million was spent on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s first official trip since assuming office on November 17.
This was revealed by the President’s Office during a press conference held on Thursday.
President Muizzu traveled to Turkey and Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from November 26 – December 3. He was accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation of government officials.
As such, the president’s office disclosed that a total of MVR 683,229.36 was spent for four tickets to travel in first class.
Further, MVR 1,539,239.82 was spent on 12 business class tickets and MVR 232,086.42 was spent for 12 tickets to travel in economy.
A total of MVR 2,454,055.60 was spent for all the tickets, including from Maldives to Turkey, Turkey to Dubai and Dubai to Maldives.
Further, a total of MVR 217,828 was provided as pocket money, for 22 individuals and MVR 41,548.80 was given as incidental funds, totaling MVR 259,376.80.
According to the President’s Office, MVR 182,546 was provided as pocket money for 19 individuals during the Dubai trip, with MVR 145,944.76 provided as food expenses for nine individuals.
The transport expenses in Dubai were tagged at MVR 75,488.38 and MVR 168,892.06 was provided to nine individuals as accommodation expenses.
MVR 26,412.59 was disclosed as expenses to cover SIM cards.
In addition to this, a total of MVR 155,182.21 was spent to hold the meeting with Maldivian nationals residing in Dubai, as well as MVR 20,766.72 as incidental expenses.
The trip to Dubai cost the government a total of MVR 775,232.72.
