The number of tourist facilities currently operational across the Maldives, has dropped further.
This was revealed by the latest daily statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday.
As such, the ministry’s figures revealed that as of December 12, the number of operational tourist accommodation facilities across the Maldives sat at 1,135.
This means over 100 tourist facilities halted services within a week. Statistics reveal that 122 guesthouses have halted services.
The guesthouses span across 113 islands of 20 atolls, with hotels operational in eight islands of eight atolls.
Presently, a total of 61,207 tourist beds are in operation across these facilities, which include 175 resorts, 802 guesthouses, 14 hotels and 144 live-aboard vessels.
The beds operational across these facilities include 42,963 in resorts, 1,940 in hotels, 13,563 in guesthouses and 2,741 in live-aboard vessels.
Maldives currently has a capacity of 1,139 tourist facilities which include 144 safari vessels, 802 guesthouses, 14 hotels and 179 resorts. This means that of the total facility capacity, four resorts have yet to resume operations.
