Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Li Xin and the Australian High Commissioner to the Maldives, David Jessup has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam.

The Chinese Ambassador and the Australian High Commissioner, met with the Fisheries Minister during two different meetings.

During his meeting with the Chinese Ambassador, Minister Shiyam had a fruitful discussion regarding strengthening of fisheries and ocean resources of the Maldives.

As such, discussions were held on areas of capacity building, infrastructure development and fisheries trade.

The meeting with the Australian High Commissioner centered on leveraging Australian expertise and resources to foster sustainable growth in Maldives' fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Jessup, accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Hodges

Minister Ahmed Shiyam, was joined by Permanent Secretary Dr. Aminath Shafia and Director General Shafiya Naeem.

The Fisheries Ministry noted that this meeting was an important step towards building a strong partnership between the two countries for the development of Maldives' fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
