A woman who was arrested under allegations of attacking an individual with a sharp weapon, has been released.
The 29-year-old woman is to have attacked an individual with a sharp weapon inside a shop on 07 October 2023.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) arrested the woman on the same day.
The Criminal Court has remanded the woman in custody twice, for 15 days.
On Thursday, MPS confirmed that they have released the woman. The woman's remand period ended on Tuesday, and when she was presented to the Criminal Court for another remand hearing, she was released after the court granted her no further custody days.
Her identity has not been publicized by the police institution.
However, MPS assured that they will continue to further investigate the case.
A video circulating on social media shows the woman speaking with the cashier at a mobile phone and electronics store. After the woman asked to see it, the cashier is seen showing her a phone. She is then seen initiating an argument and attacking the male cashier with a knife before fleeing from the store.
