An individual has been arrested in connection with the case of a pregnant underage rape victim.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they received the report from an island in the south of Maldives, comprising of Gaaf Dhaal, Gaaf Alif, Addu City and Fuvahmulah City on October 6.
An investigation was launched shortly after.
The police institution revealed that a 26-year-old man was arrested under a court order in connection with the case, on October 14.
MPS did not reveal further information regarding the case, as it was linked to a minor.

According to police statistics, a total of 220 cases of sexual assault have been reported to authorities so far this year.
96 cases linked to children were reported to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services in August alone, of which 18 are related to sexual abuse.
