A man has been killed in a road accident on the link road, in Gan Island of Laamu atoll.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they received reports of the accident at around 06:25pm on Saturday.

The accident occurred after a car and motorcycle collided on the link road.

Police cited doctors at Gan Regional Hospital having revealed that the motorcyclist and one out of the two individuals inside the car, were taken to the hospital for treatment for the injuries attained in the crash.

The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old Maldivian man, succumbed to his injuries, doctors informed police at around 01:51am on Sunday.

Police revealed that the motorcyclist did have a license to drive the vehicle.

The 28-year-old Maldivian man who was driving the car without a license, is still receiving treatment at the hospital.

Further investigations are currently underway.
