The construction of a mosque in Thuraakunu island of Haa Alif atoll, has been contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs contracted the project to build a mosque in Thuraakunu to MTCC, during a special ceremony held on Wednesday.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali signed the contract on behalf of the government, with MTCC’s Chief Executive Officer Adam Azim signing on behalf of the company.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC is required to build a mosque on Thuraakunu island with the capacity to accommodate up to 300 worshippers.
Further, the project entails the construction of two regions where worshippers can do carry out their ablution.
Paving work and the establishment of a minaret also comes under the scope of the project.
The Thuraakunu mosque construction project is valued at MVR 11.21 million.
