MP Abdullah Ahmed resigns from PPM
Nine from PPM had left PPM

Thinadhoo North Constituency MP Abdullah Ahmed has resigned as Council Member of the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).

He made the statement in a twitter post, stating that he had resigned from the position effective immediately.

MP Abdullah was elected to the Parliament on Jumhooree Party ticket, but defected soon afterward. He was one of the 9 MPs from PPM who had signed the no confidence motion on Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh.

This one of the many high-profile defections from PPM to the opposition. While this has been observed, the Attorney General had submitted a motion to the Supreme Court which effectively nullifies the defector’s Parliament seat.
