Prominent businessman Mohamed ‘Uchchu’ Moosa has donated MVR 1.17 million to the Hoarafushi International Pre-School in Haa Alif atoll.
The donation was made following an appeal by the island residents during the Champa Brothers’ Chairman’s visit to the island to attend the Fishermen’s Day function and the ceremony to inaugurate the ice plant on the island.
Uchchu had pledged to provide support in this regard, having earlier provided financial assistance for the development of Hoarafushi International Pre-School as promised.
In addition to this, Uchchu also handed over additional assistance to the Hoarafushi Council on Sunday.
The business magnate’s daughter Sarah Mohamed Moosa presented the donation to the Hoarafushi Council President, Mohamed Waheed during a special ceremony held on Sunday.
The donation totals MVR 1,171,558 including financial aid as well as equipment. The donation included school furniture, office equipment and items required for the children’s playground.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Hoarafushi Council President expressed gratitude to Uchchu for the generous donation.
Uchchu was presented with a plaque of appreciation for the services provided by Champa Brothers and its chairman, for the island community.
The plaque was presented to Uchchu’s daughter by MP for Hoarafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem.
The Hoarafushi International Pre-School is being built by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) initiative.
The foundation stone for the school was laid on 31 March 2022 by Hoarafushi MP Saleem.
