Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has temporarily halted the leasing of uninhabited islands for agricultural purpose.

In a statement issued by the Ministry on Tuesday, the Ministry stated that the lease of uninhabited islands for agricultural purpose has been suspended due to the ongoing work to amend the regulations of leasing of uninhabited islands.

As such, the Ministry has suspended the lease of uninhabited islands and acceptance of applications for leasing.

The regulations of leasing of uninhabited islands has seen prior amendments as well.

The regulations of leasing of uninhabited islands came into effect in 2020.
