Shore Protection Project of Buruni Island in Thaa Atoll is progressing well, says Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

MTCC disclosed that Buruni Shore Protection Project is currently underway with 64 percent project completion.

The company stated that the breakwater construction work has reached 56 percent completion.

Additionally, the company has completed beach filling work under the project.

MTCC commenced the shore protection project in Buruni in December 2021. As such, they stated the project with dredging of borrow areas from which sand will be sourced to pump to the eroding areas.

This project will pump 21,181 cubic meters of sand into Buruni's eroding areas.

The project was contracted to MTCC on September 23, 2021.

The value of the project is USD 1.86 million.
