President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on farmers to promote safe agricultural practices.

The President on Friday called on farmers to promote safe agricultural practices, preserve the natural environment, and adopt organic farming methods instead of using harmful fertilizers to safeguard and ensure public health.

In his message on World Health Day 2023, the President spoke about marine conservation, especially in Maldivian waters, to ensure food security.

Noting that World Health Day coincides with the anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO), which is marking its 75th anniversary this year, President Solih highlighted the numerous contributions and assistance of the WHO to the Maldives in promoting the healthcare sector since its inception.

The President also conveyed his gratitude to WHO on behalf of the government and the people of the Maldives.

Stating that World Health Day 2023 is themed "Health for All," President Solih noted that it relates to promoting public health and spoke about the need to enhance the public health sector in the Maldives. He added that the most significant healthcare sector achievements had been made through the country's public health services.

Considering the current lifestyle trends and advancements in the healthcare sector, the President spoke about promoting the public health sector. He also stressed on the continuing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and described them as one of the most significant threats to the health and well-being of people. He added that more studies should be done to identify the underlying causes for the increase in NCDs in the Maldives.
