Discussions have been held on promoting bilateral relations between Maldives and South Korea.
The discussions were held between the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Ahmed Khaleel and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, Park Jin.
The Maldivian State Minister paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister of South Korea as part of his ongoing Official Visit to the country, on Friday.
During the meeting, State Minister Khaleel and Minister Park Jin discussed various ways to promote bilateral relations between the two countries. As such, discussions were held on areas such as trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.
Discussions were also held on the possibility of increasing tourist traffic between the two countries.
Furthermore, State Minister Khaleel expressed his admiration for South Korea’s rich cultural heritage and its advanced technological developments. He also highlighted the potential for further cooperation between the two countries in the field of renewable energy, health care, and education.
State Minister Khaleel expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him during his visit to South Korea and expressed his hope that this meeting would lead to further cooperation and strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries.
Additionally, the South Korean Minister commended the efforts made by the Maldives to develop its tourism industry and expressed his government's readiness to further enhance the tourism sector through Korean investments and expertise. He also expressed his country's keen interest in increasing cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The meeting between State Minister Khaleel and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin is a significant step towards promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between the Maldives and South Korea.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Second Summit for Democracy held in South Korea.
The Indo-Pacific Regional Meeting of the Second Summit for Democracy was convened by the Government of South Korea, under the theme of “Challenges and Progress in Addressing Corruption”. South Korea is one of the five co-hosts for this year's summit, along with the United States, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, and Zambia.
