JP announces Qasim as their Presidential Candidate

Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) and Member of Parliament for Maamigili Constituency, Qasim Ibrahim has announced that he will be running for the upcoming Presidential Election 2023, as the Presidential Candidate of the party.
This was disclosed in a letter Qasim sent to the party's Secretary General Ali Arif.
In his letter, Qasim noted that no one has submitted application to run on the party ticket before the end of the announced period, despite the fact that there are many candidates in the party who are qualified to run for president.
He went onto say that he made the decision to run for Presidency in 2023 on behalf of the party.

Qasim has made the announcement to run for President, while President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has invited the coalition partners to form a unity agreement for the upcoming 2023 Presidential Election.
The government has said that that JP's decision to run for Presidency separately will not pose as a challenge to President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih's position.
