Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has called on former Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The visit came as part of his ongoing official trip to Sri Lanka, upon the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry.

During the call, both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation in multiple fields of mutual interest.

Revealing details about the meeting, FM Shahid in a Twitter post stated that he had a good discussion with the ex-Sri Lankan PM on issues of mutual interest for both countries.

He went on to highlight that the Maldives is grateful for the strong bond of friendship between the two nations.

In a separate Twitter post, Shahid revealed that the visit is to attend the Independence Day celebrations of the neighboring country.

As part of the visit, the Maldivian minister will also meet Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
