In a Twitter post on Thursday, CP Hameed congratulated Sergeant Adil from Laamu Gan Police for his “excellent” investigative work that gave 40 years imprisonment for child sexual offender Mohamed Shazleef, native to Kalaidhoo island in Laamu atoll.

CP Hameed added that this mirrors the “strong” police response to violence against women and girls.

The rape case is to have taken place on 6 January 2018 and the Prosecutor General’s Office has provided a summary statement in connection with the charges raised against the rapist.

As such, the culprit is also to have taken videos and pictures of the assault and abuse of the 17 -year-old girl .

Charges against the rapist were filed at the Criminal Court on 5 February 2018.

The charges of rape were proven at court under Article 14(c) of the Sexual Offences Act and he was jailed for 20 years behind bars.

Further, he was also found guilty of producing pornographic material in connection with the case, for which he was slapped with an additional 20 years in prison.
