The Foakaidhoo Community Centre in Foakaidhoo island of Shaviyani atoll, has been inaugurated.

The community center was inaugurated as part of Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar’s recent two-day visit to the Maldives.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that it was another crucial Indian Grant Assistance Project that seeks to empower local councils and inspire togetherness amongst local communities.

The Community Centre was jointly inaugurated by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and India’s EAM Dr. Jaishankar.

Speaking at the event, Minister Shahid highlighted that the community center will have a positive impact on the community development of the island as it will pave the path for opportunities for community interactions through a range of activities and interests for all age groups.

The EAM of India also delivered a statement during the ceremony.

The Foakaidhoo Community Centre development project is valued at MVR 5.2 million.

The project has been completed under the Indian grant assistance scheme of MVR 106 million provided back in 2019.

Dr. Jaishankar conducted the visit at the invitation of FM Shahid.
