Three individuals have been arrested during drug busts in two islands of Noonu atoll.
The operations were conducted as part of the Maldives Police Service (MPS)’s efforts to crack down on cases of drug smuggling and trafficking in the Maldives.
As such, police officers stationed in Velidhoo island of Noonu atoll conducted an operation on Thursday, through which a 34-year-old woman was arrested for being in possession of a packet filled with suspected narcotics.
Another woman, 26 and a 45-year-old man were arrested from Manadhoo island on November 30 as well.
They were arrested with nine pieces of cellophane stuffed with suspected narcotics.
Upon being presented to the magistrate court in Lhohi island of Noonu atoll for their remand hearing, the two were given a remand of seven days at a facility allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Both operations were conducted with the joint efforts from the Police Intelligence Unit, the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) and the police officers stationed in the atoll.
Both cases are currently being investigated by the police institution.
