The fourth amendment bill to the Criminal Procedure Act has been ratified.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the fourth amendment to the bill on Thursday.
The amendment bill was passed by the People’s Majlis at the 33rd sitting of its third session of 2022, on November 7.
The amendment has been publicized in the government gazette, following ratification.
The recently amended bill revises the procedures governing court warrants for imposing travel restrictions on suspects of criminal offences.
Further it has made revisions to the duration given to the Prosecutor General's Office to file charges, as well as to the policies governing plea agreements.
The amendment also includes provisions governing witness protection and procedures for acquiring the testimony of witnesses under protection and requires the state to request witness protection if a witness's safety and security are threatened.
