Discussions have been held regarding development plans for Kurinbi island in Haa Dhaal atoll.
The discussions were held during a meeting between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the island council as well as Women's Development Committee (WDC) members of the island, on Sunday.
During the meeting held at the President’s Office, discussions revolved around the ongoing development projects in the island as well as the most pertinent needs of the island residents.
The meeting also saw councilors briefing President Solih with their 100-year development strategy and land-use plans for the island.
The president and councilors as well as WDC members of Kurinbi also discussed challenges linked to the use of the island harbor, space constraints at the Secretariat of the council as well as the lack of a dedicated swimming area.
President Solih revealed that funds have been earmarked in the state budget for 2023 to address most of the concerns raised by the council members.
Shedding light on plans to develop a new administrative building and football grounds, the president assured the island council and WDC that discussions will be held with relevant authorities and stakeholders in a bid to address the need for harbor expansion in Kurinbi.
President Solih also noted the possibility of developing a dedicated swimming area as part of harbor expansion work.
The meeting also saw councilors noting that the Solih administration has been providing the most development projects carried out on the island.
They also highlighted that the meeting with the president had renewed their hopes of addressing the concerns of the island's community.
