Hefty amount of cash, drugs seized in Maldives capital

A hefty amount of cash and drugs have been seized by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
This was done during a counter-drugs operation conducted by the authority on Thursday evening, according to the Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed.
CP Hameed revealed that the operation was conducted by teams from the MPS Counter-Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Department.
During the counter-narcotics operation, officers seized 13.56 kilograms of narcotic drugs as well as hefty bundles of cash totaling MVR 644,020.
The drugs and cash were seized through raids in two houses in the capital, Malé City as well as a guesthouse in Hulhumalé.
In his Twitter post, an enthusiastic CP assured the public that the crackdown on drugs will go on.
As part of efforts to curb drug smuggling and trafficking in the Maldives, MPS on October 28, cracked down on a major drug bust in Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll. Since then, the authority had uncovered more narcotic drugs buried in the island and an uninhabited island nearby. The drugs seized then weighed 69 kilograms.
Including the 13 kilograms of drugs discovered buried in the wooded area of the island on October 28, the total confiscated narcotics drugs in Hoandedhdhoo weigh 82 kilograms, of both methamphetamine and heroin.
MPS is presently conducting several drug operations across the archipelago nation.
CP Hameed has also highlighted that the authority places the highest priority on drug operations and assured that they are closely monitoring the networks linked to drug smuggling and trafficking across the Maldives.
