Man arrested for using forged receipts to make purchases exceeding MVR 170,000

Arrested is a 30-year-old Maldivian man

An individual has been arrested, accused of using forged bank transfer receipts to make a purchase.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the man was arrested for using fake bank receipts to purchase goods at a shop in Hinnavaru island of Lhaviyani atoll.

Arrested in connection with the case is a 30 year old Maldivian man . He was arrested under a court order, on November 1.

The man is accused of attempting to purchase goods worth over MVR 170,000 over the course of several days by showing fake slips that showed he had transferred the payments through Bank of Maldives (BML).

Findings of the police institution so far indicate that the man has been involved in several previous fraud cases as well, and has been doing it on a wide network.

Upon being presented to the court for his remand hearing, the 30-year-old has since been remanded by 15 days at a facility allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Further investigations are underway but no further details have been revealed.
