Man arrested, remanded in connection with drug bust

A man has been arrested in connection with a drug bust in Bileddhoo island in Faafu atoll.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the arrests were made following an operation carried out by officers stationed in Bileddhoo island as well as Nilandhoo island, on November 4.

The operation was conducted under efforts by the police institution to curb drug smuggling and trafficking across the archipelago nation and stemmed from an intel report that the suspect was smuggling and trafficking drugs.

Arrested in connection with the operation is a 34-year-old Maldivian man.

Officers found 80 rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics, upon searching the man.

Upon being presented to the Bileddhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the man has been remanded by 10 days, at a facility to be allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The case is being investigated by the Nilandhoo Police Station.
