The tourism of Maldives is slowly becoming a foreign product, says Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom.
Raising the concern that the Maldivian tourism is slowly becoming a foreign product due to the increase in foreign investors, at Tuesday's People's Majlis sitting, Minister Mausoom stated that the role of Maldivian investors in the sector needs to be broadened.
The Minister went on to note that it is important to provide more opportunities for those who had worked to promote the Maldivian tourism.
Stating that governments does not get involved in businesses anymore, Minister Mausoom said that it is now the role of the governments to provide opportunities for investors.
Minister Mausoom also stated that even though foreign investors are interested in investing in the Maldives, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is hindering this. He however went on to note that it is more important to provide more opportunities for Maldivian investors.
Minister Mausoom highlighted that Maldivian tourism is now world renowned and that it has been exemplary for the past 50 years.
Moreover, the Minister also stated that it is important to secure more job opportunities for Maldivians.
