Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with the island council members, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and the management of public offices and institutions in Ungoofaaru Island in the Raa Atoll.
The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Raa Atoll Council, in Ungoofaaru Island on Sunday.
The meeting saw discussions on the island community’s most pertinent needs and developmental requirements.
As such, the members of Ungoofaari Island Council expressed the need to expand the scope of the land reclamation project with the Vice President.
The council members also shared the need to renovate the harbor quay wall, as well as facilitate embarking and disembarking at the outer seawall.
Moreover, discussions were also held on the need to expand the scope of the project to develop additional classrooms at the island school. They also shared the need for more fertile farming land in nearby islands.
Additionally, representatives of public offices and institutions who took part in the meeting, noted the need to conduct training programmes at the Ungoofaaru Islamic Centre.
They also shared the need to address challenges in improving policing services and other developmental needs of the island.
The meeting saw Vice President Naseem speaking about the administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable development of all islands. As such, the Vice President stressed on the efforts of the administration to strengthen healthcare services across the country.
He also noted the recent developments in the education sector and highlighted efforts to train principals and other staff.
Speaking about the concerns raised by the community leaders at the meeting, the Vice President noted that they were related to projects progressing at different stages. He also assured the island’s representatives that the administration would work to address their concerns.
After the meeting, the Vice President met with the parents of Ungoofaaru School and listened to their concerns.
