President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has visited the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) as part of his ongoing state visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The president visited the EDB and met with Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Chairman of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company at the EDB.
The meeting saw President Solih noting that the Bahrain Telecommunications Authority (Batelco) is a majority shareholder in Dhiraagu, the largest telecommunications operator in the Maldives.
He highlighted that the company has positively impacted the country’s economy.
President Solih also welcomed Bahrain’s decision to grant the Maldives sovereignty over the data of its beneficiaries in Bahrain-based data centers.
Shedding light on the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, President Solih applauded the Bahraini government for their prompt measures in responding to the outbreak and reflected on the Maldivian government’s response efforts as well.
Discussions also revolved around future trade and investment opportunities and potential areas of collaboration between Maldives and Bahrain.
On the sidelines of the visit, ministers from both governments engaged in discussions regarding avenues for further collaboration as well.
During the visit, the president was given a presentation on the EDB’s operations as well.
EDB is an investment promotion agency responsible for attracting investment into the Kingdom and supporting initiatives that enhance the investment climate.
After concluding the visit, the Maldivian First Couple attended a dinner reception hosted by the Bahraini Deputy Prime Minister.
