The 34-year-old Bangladeshi man working at Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) is recovering from wounds sustained on the 14th of September, while working on H. Zaaham, after a 6 feet steel rod that fell from an upper floor pierced his body .
ADK Chief Medical Officer Abdullah Niyaf said the 34-year-old foreigner was now able to eat and can even walk a bit . He said the man was luck there were no bleeding from major internal organs . Neurologist Ali Niyaf said the doctors team were able to treat him well and hopefully he would not have to undergo treatment for this later in life . Dr. Niyaf said the foreigner was saved from the incident without permanent injury.
As it fell on him, the iron rod pierced his face near the nose, and went down through his body upto the stomach.
The incident occurred when the foreigner poked his head out of the building when he heard the sound of steel falling from the sixth floor of the building. The man was wearing a helmet and safety boots, the doctor noted.
ADK Managing Director Ahmed Afzal said the strictest rules should be followed in construction sites. He noted that such good safety standards and procedures have been formulated in Maldives but they are not being implemented.
The RCC worker's life was saved after a series of surgeries at ADK Hospital that lasted for about nine hours.
