While a fatal accident in Male' City left young man dead on Wednesday night, authorities have still been unable to locate the driver of the motorbike involved in the crash.

The accident had occurred after an oncoming motorbike crashed into a wheelbarrow on Huvafenee street in the Maldives' capital.

22-year-old Ismail Yazdhan Ali, who had been in the backseat of the motorbike, had been confirmed as dead when taken to ADK Hospital for treatment on Wednesday night.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) received report of the accident at around 10pm on Wednesday evening. The accident had occurred in Huvafenee street in Male' City, and the person driving the motorbike had fled the scene following the collision, which took 22-year-old Ismail Yazdhan Ali's life.

A Police media official revealed that efforts were underway to locate the man. Witness accounts from the night of the accident detail that the driver of the motorbike had fled immediately after the collision. Bystanders had called an ambulance to transport Yazdhan to ADK Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, who had received severe injuries when the motorbike crashed.
