Several bottles of alcohol held in police custody and confiscated during multiple different operations conducted by the Maldives Police Service, have been destroyed.
The police institution revealed that the hefty amounts of alcohol that were destroyed included alcohol bottles collected as evidence in connection with cases that have since concluded, investigated by the Drug Enforcement Department. These bottles had been in police custody since 2020.
The bottles destroyed also include those linked to cases investigated by the Drug Enforcement Department, tourist police and Hulhumalé Police Station. The cases went cold as the suspects linked to the cases remained unidentified.
The items included 482 branded bottles, 31 PET bottles, 444 cans of beer and 35 addiitonal items.
Additional items destroyed included bags, newspapers, cardboard boxes and bags.
The institution revealed that the bottles were destroyed under the supervision of the relevant police team and under the set legal procedure for it.
