Juvenile Residential Treatment Center opens
The Juvenile Residential Treatment Center is required to be established under the Child Justice Act

A juvenile residential treatment center has been opened in Thaa Atoll Veymandoo by the government.

The center was inaugurated by Minister of State for Home Affairs Ali Nazeer at a ceremony held in Veymandoo.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of State Ali Nazeer said the opening of the residential treatment center marks the beginning of a new phase in the implementation of the child justice system.

The State Minister said that crime prevention should start long before crime is committed and that is why the causes which leads to committing crime should be addressed early.

The State Minister said he is aware that by establishing physical structures and some other material facilities alone would not solve the social problems, but he said with the opening of the Residential Treatment Centre, we have come to the beginning point of finding solution to these problems.

The Juvenile Residential Treatment Center opened in Veymandoo, is required to be established under the Child Justice Act.

A residential center is a facility required by law to be established to house children who require short-term or long-term isolation treatment and children who require long-term detention for corrective action.

Each child in the residential treatment center will be provided with education, training and skills appropriate to their age, educational standard and ability.
