The most significant contributions to democratic progress in recent history have been the amendments brought to the Decentralization Act, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The president said this in a statement published on the occasion of World Democracy Day 2022.

As such, the president stated that the most significant contributions to democratic progress in recent history have been the amendments brought to the Decentralization Act, which enables more autonomy for local councils and Women's Development Committees (WDC).

In his statement, President Solih highlighted that the amendments to the Decentralization Act enhanced governance and reinforced the protection of rights to the people.

He went on to shed light on the progress made in ensuring that the voices of the people were mirrored in policy making.

The president highlighted the multiple efforts made to eliminate gender bias and provide equal opportunities for women, including adapting and amending laws.
