President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to resolve the issues facing the ferry service in Meemu atoll.

He made the promise during a meeting held with the island community of Muli in Meemu atoll, on Sunday.

As such, stating that the administration will find solutions to the issues facing the ferry service provision in Meemu atoll prior to expanding the 'Raajje Transport Link (RTL)' high-speed ferry services to the region, President Solih noted that meetings with the island communities allow him to speak directly with the people and discuss their most pertinent needs.

Prior to the meeting with the island community, President Solih met the members of the Meemu Atoll Council, Muli Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC).

Noting that such meetings offer insight into ways to reprioritize the administration’s plans and projects for the region, the president highlighted that his administration will seek a path to address the concerns of the island community, including resolving the ferry service.

This marks the first time a president has met with the island residents in such a setting, where they could share their concerns with the country’s leader.

The community expressed gratitude to the president for the valuable opportunity.

The meeting saw the island residents sharing their concerns including the state of the island’s harbor, inconsistencies in the ferry services, airport development, the causeway connecting Muli and Naalaafushi as well as healthcare issues and education sector development.

The meeting saw President Solih shedding light on the improving healthcare services at Muli Regional Hospital.

He also revealed that the design for the island’s harbor project has been completed.

Raiymandhoo was the president’s first destination of the tour, which he began on Saturday morning.

President Solih toured five islands of Meemu atoll during the three-day tour; Raiymandhoo, Maduvvari, Dhiggaru, Veyvah and Muli. Muli is the last leg of the president’s visit to five islands in Meemu atoll.

He was accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials.

During the visits, the president inspected the progress of the ongoing development projects in these islands.

He also sat down with island councils and Women’s Development Committees of the respective islands.
