The community of Veyvah island in Meemu atoll is pleased with the development progress of the incumbent administration, says the island council.
As part of his ongoing tour of five islands in Meemu atoll, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met the Veyvah councilors and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members on Sunday.
The meeting saw in-depth discussions held regarding the community’s concerns and issues they face.
Highlighting that President Solih was the first leader to visit the island over the past 10 years, the councilors expressed gratitude for the special attention accorded by his administration to the development of the island.
They went on to note that multiple development projects have been initiated in the island, during the incumbent administration.
Discussions were also held on the most pertinent needs of the community including developing a new office building for the council, an ice plant, provision of a new ambulance and renovation of the jetty in Mulah Island used by students from Veyvah, who go to the school in Mulah, on a daily basis.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured them the administration will work to find amicable solutions to the concerns raised at the meeting and announced that the Local Government Authority (LGA) has included a project to develop the office building of the Veyvah council, in a priority list.
Raiymandhoo was the first destination of the President's tour, which he began on Saturday morning.
President Solih will be touring five islands of Meemu atoll during the three-day tour. Sunday afternoon he was in Muli.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials.
The President’s Office revealed that during the visits, the president will be inspecting the progress of the ongoing development projects in these islands.
President Solih, in his tour, is expected to participate in the ceremony marking the conclusion of the shore protection project in Dhiggaru island, as well as the ceremony to officially inaugurate the harbor and powerhouse in Veyvah island.
He will also sit down with members of the Meemu Atoll Council, island councils and Women’s Development Committees of the respective islands.
President Solih is expected to return to the capital on Monday, after concluding the tour.
