Public protest against rape and impunity in the congested capital of Maldives
A man has been arrested under allegations of molesting a minor inside a shop in the congested capital, Malé City.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) received reports of a 10-year-old falling victim to sexual abuse inside a shop in the capital city, on Wednesday.
A 24-year-old expatriate was arrested in connection with the case on Thursday.
The man was arrested under a court order.
Further investigations are currently underway.
At a time cases of child abuse have been spiraling in the Maldives, a total of 92 such cases were reported to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services in July alone.
Out of the 92 cases reported, 11 were to do with child abuse.
