Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a white alert due to adverse weather conditions.

The department revealed that the white alert is effective from 02:30pm through 08:30pm on Monday.

The white alert was issued from Haa Alif atoll to Thaa atoll.

The advisory states that heavy rain and thunderstorms with strong winds of 22 – 27 miles per hour with gusts of 45 miles per hour are expected over the region.

Further, rough seas are also expected to prevail across the region during showers.

A yellow alert was issued earlier on Monday, from Haa Alif atoll to Alif Dhaal atoll after predicting strong winds of 25 – 30 miles per hour with very rough seas.

The department has also urged seafarers to remain alert in the event of the worsening weather condition.

Winds will be west to northwesterly at 15 – 25 miles per hour over the north and central atolls and 13 – 23miles per hour over the southern atolls. Winds may gust to 45 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are predicted to be rough in southern atolls and generally rough elsewhere with a wave height of four to seven feet.

As Maldives is currently in its southwest monsoon, the weather remains rainy, with a few thunderstorms and strong winds. Some islands have been experiencing swell wave surges during high tides as well as flooding due to the heavy rain fall.
