Adverse weather conditions unleashed heavy rain showers on Tuesday, wreaking havoc across Henbadhoo island of Noonu atoll, leaving behind widespread damage in its wake.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 75 houses in Henbadhoo were flooded, causing varying degrees of damage.

NDMA also emphasized that the Henbadhoo Council and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) worked together to drain the water.

NDMA has also revealed that efforts to assess the immediate assistance needed in response to the damage caused by the heavy rain in Henbadhoo are underway through the council, with the help of the Red Crescent and Velidhoo volunteers.

Further, NDMA stated that they are working with the island councils to provide assistance to the communities of Kurendhoo island of Lhaviyani atoll and Kendhikulhudhoo island of Noonu atoll, which have also experienced heavy rainfall, flooding, and damage due to the affects of the bad spell of weather Maldives is currently experiencing.

The Maldives Meteorological Service has announced that the weather in the Maldives will worsen over the next five days, starting Wednesday.
