Maldives celebrates independence on July 26 every year

July 28 has been declared a government holiday.

The President’s Office revealed that July 28, which falls on a Thursday, has been declared a government holiday, following the new list of government holidays declared for the year 2022.

With this, the celebrations marking Maldives’ Independence Day which falls on July 26, have been extended from July 26 – 30.

The incumbent administration earlier announced the decision to not declare government holidays on July 24 and 25, 2022.

Maldives celebrates independence on July 26 every year since gaining independence from the British on the 26 July 1965 after 77 years as a British protectorate.
