Maldives Police Service (MPS) has seized a number of alcohol bottles from Himmafushi Island in Kaafu Atoll and Villingili Island in Gaafu Alif Atoll.
Maldives Police disclosed that they seized a total of 71 bottles of alcohol from an operation held in Himmafushi island during Eid Al Adha, on Saturday night. These bottles were found hidden among trees near a local café. MPS have yet to arrest anyone regarding these alcohol bottles.
During an operation held in G.A. Villingili on Friday, the police found six beer cans in an abandoned house in the reclaimed area of the island.
Police have yet to make any arrests in connection to the case.
Police highlights that the operations conducted in Himmafushi and Villingili was a counter-narcotics operation held in connection to the Eid holidays.
Additionally, the Police also seized drugs during an operation conducted in Maafushi Island of Kaafu Atoll. As such, the authority disclosed that the operation conducted last Thursday saw Police arresting a 33 year old Maldivian man in connection with the case.
The Police Service checked his room after receiving court orders, when Police intelligence received the report that he was smuggling and selling drugs to the island community. During the operation, Police is disclosed to have found 53 rubber packets and a juice petty packet filled with substances that is suspected to be drugs.
All three cases are under investigation by the police.
