Five key agreements were signed
The governments of Maldives and Rwanda signed the five key agreements with a view to further enhance bilateral ties
Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Rwanda on 06 September 2019

Maldives and Rwanda have signed key agreements in a bid to fortify bilateral cooperation.

The governments of Maldives and Rwanda signed the five key agreements with a view to further enhancing bilateral ties, during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda, on Tuesday.

The agreements were signed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel on behalf of the Maldivian government and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda, Vincent Biruta on behalf of the government of Rwanda.

The five key agreements signed between Maldives and Rwanda are:

  • General Cooperation Agreement
  • Air Services Agreement
  • A Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Tourism Development and Promotion, and Business Events
  • A Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Maritime Transport
  • A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources of Rwanda and the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture of Maldives.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the signing of the key agreements demonstrates a “pivotal” point of progress in the bilateral relations between the two countries and will further solidify cooperation and coordination between the two countries on bilateral and multilateral issues.

Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Rwanda on 06 September 2019.
