The larger-than-life legacy of the late President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan mirrored sheer political will and astute politico-economic acumen, says Abdulla Shahid, President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The PGA made these remarks at the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly on May 20, where members gathered to pay tribute to the memory of Sheikh Khalifa.

In his remarks, the PGA noted that the late UAE President showed the world what transformative leadership is all about.

As such, he noted that Sheikh Khalifa showed that transformative leadership is all about genuine compassion for the people and the region, courage to break barriers as well as a clear vision for the future.

The PGA, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, extended his best wishes to Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as the new President of the middle-eastern nation.

The PGA went on to quote the late UAE President:

The Union1 is the fruit of a good tree planted by our fathers who dreamed of the idea with hope, took care of it with their dedication to raise the flag of the Union as high as they could and strengthened its pillars. They are really the spirit of the Union”

Prior to the GA Plenary meeting, PGA Shahid visited the Permanent Mission of UAE to offer condolences on his passing.
