President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inspected the progress of development projects ongoing at Velana International Airport (VIA).
President Solih visited VIA on Thursday, where he was received by senior officials at the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
During the visit, the president toured the new seaplane terminal, fire station, cargo terminal, passenger terminal building and fuel farm at the airport.
The installation of a new fuel hydrant system and development of a new fuel farm are a few among all components added to the airport expansion project.
Other components include the establishment of a designated area for cargo and the development of a new passenger terminal building.
So far, 85 percent of the fuel hydrant system has been completed, with the fuel farm area seeing up to 95 percent completion.
In addition to this, 95 percent of the work on the cargo terminal has also been completed, alongside the cargo jetty which is 98 percent completed.
The passenger terminal building construction has also reached 30 percent progress.
