VP Naseem calls on PGA Shahid as part of ongoing U.S. trip

VP Naseem and his delegation will conclude their visit to the U.S. and return home on May 11.

Vice President Faisal Naseem has paid a courtesy call on the president of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Abdulla Shahid.

The Maldivian vice president paid the courtesy call on PGA Shahid on Wednesday, as part of his ongoing visit to New York City, United States of America.

The meeting was held at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC and was right after the vice president delivered his remarks at the ongoing UNGA high-level thematic debate on "Putting sustainable and resilient tourism at the heart of an inclusive recovery”.

The debate, revolving around the theme "Putting sustainable and resilient tourism at the heart of an inclusive recovery”, was organized in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

During the meeting, VP Naseem highlighted the PGA’s work and shed light on his efforts to promote equal rights for the voices of youth and women.

Expressing his gratitude to PGA Shahid for his role in attracting foreign aid and investment to the Maldives as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the vice president recognized the PGA’s role in battling the climate crisis and bringing attention to vulnerable states facing the highest impacts of climate change.

The meeting also saw PGA Shahid congratulating VP Naseem on delivering his remarks at the debate and outlined the foreign policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the instrument behind his ability to discharge his duties as the PGA.

VP Naseem arrived in NYC on the official visit on May 3 and was received at John F. Kennedy International Airport by PGA Shahid.

The Vice President is accompanied by his wife Aishath Shamsadha and a high-level delegation.

VP Naseem and his delegation will conclude their visit to the U.S. and return home on May 11.
