The government has declared vehicle ban hours for the upcoming Eid-Al-Fitr.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation revealed that vehicles will be prohibited on the roads of the Greater Malé Region between 4pm to 8pm on the day of Eid-Al-Fitr which falls on Monday, May 2 nd, .
Vehicles except those authorized to operate by the Transport Authority will be prohibited for the four hours. These vehicles include security vehicles and vehicles operating on emergency situations.
The ministry has also reached the decision to close off some roads of Male to the public the day after Eid-Al-Fitr, from 9am to 7pm.
The area to be closed off to the public is located in Maafannu district, from Majeedhee Magu to the region where West Park was earlier located.
The decision to prohibit vehicles on the streets on the evening of Eid was to allow the elderly and children to enjoy the activities of the day freely.
Authorities have been implementing this restriction for many years on the occasion of Eid.
